The journey of finding yourself is ridiculed or honored as a great high calling. It’s important that we remember that finding ourselves, or as I see it, recognizing and seeing the goodness of ourselves, is the path to forgetting about ourselves. We have to do the self-centered journey of learning to love and accept ourselves so we can get so comfortable in our own skin that we no longer worry so much about it. Once we’ve let ourselves exist as we are, we can focus on the world around us, people around us. The path to loving yourself leads to the ability to forget about yourself and love others. Not because you’ve neglected yourself. The opposite! Because you are so sure and content that you no longer need constant reassurance, grace, and forgiveness. You can turn those resources outward.
